To Dessert Party or To Not Dessert Party?

7/29/2016

Comments

We tried the Wishes Fireworks Dessert Party during our last trip to Walt Disney World. Like I did in the previous post, I'll do a pro and con section for you below.  Overall, I'll say it was a great experience.  We are NOT crowd people and it was nice to have elbow room and a more relaxed area to watch the show.  I will say, having also done the Pirates and Pals experience, I discussed in an earlier blog, I think I enjoyed both, but for different reasons and would definitely recommend either to you to try.  I doubt you will regret it.

Cons:
  • The LINE to get in was surprisingly long.  I was annoyed when we showed up an hour before Wishes and had an enormous line to wait in.  Watching people get prime seating while waiting to check in was not a magical experience.
  • It is still a pretty tight fit.  Tables are really close together and it is hard to get in and out to go grab those yummy deserts and drinks.
  • I was under the impression you could see the Main Street Electrical Parade from the dessert party.  Well, you can 'see' it, but it is NOT ideal by any stretch.  We've seen it enough times to not really care, but if you haven't seen it, don't expect to be able to sit at your table eating deserts, sipping coffee and be able to see it clearly.  It is at a distance and there are people, grass areas, and trees between you and the street.  At least that was our experience.
Pros:
  • Even with the long wait, we still had a GREAT view of the castle.
  • Tink flew right over our heads!!
  • The view, did I mention the view?
  • The food . . . delicious!!  Literally something for everyone
  • The drinks . . . Sparkling cider, Hot drinking chocolate, Signature lemonades, Coffee, Tea
  • Though it was FULL, it was so much better to be sitting and snacking than to be up in that crowd.
  • The exit . . . when it comes time to leave, you are lead out mostly away from the crowds mass exodus.  Which is also a very nice bonus.
  • I enjoyed the relaxing scene so much that I didn't want to ruin it by taking gobs of photos, which is SO unlike me.  I do have a few.  Never was able to get a good photo of my dessert plate.  It was just so dark and the flash just made it whitewashed, so sorry about that.
So, to sum up, are dessert parties worth the extra $$?  To my family, yes, yes they are.  For us, we place a high value on having our own experience that does not include being elbow to elbow with strangers our entire trip.  We want to relax and enjoy Wishes and the fireworks in a unique setting and if they are feeding us an endless supply of desserts and fruits and such in the process, we are happy campers.  Will we do it again?  Absolutely.

Our Family Magic Tour

7/16/2016

Comments

On our last day in the parks, we started our morning with the Extra Morning Magic I raved about in my last blog post.  We ate breakfast and headed straight to meet our group for the Disney Family Magic Tour.
I'll start off by saying we likely would not do this tour again.  Our 8 year old loved it, but we were over it after the first 45 minutes.  I'll go into it during the pros and cons below.

Pros
  • The storyline was cute.
  • The guide was in character and very patient.
  • You go all over Magic Kingdom and see things you may not have noticed before.
  • Looking for clues was clearly fun for the kids.
  • Special surprise meeting with Disney character during tour and the character played and signed autographs and posed for photos.
  • Easily something young children can participate in.
  • Older children get to read clues and feel important.
  • Special meet and greet at the end with free photo was also a great bonus.

Cons
  • After a week in the park, we were more or less over the crowds.  Having to traverse through Magic Kingdom during the busiest and hottest time of the day through the thick crowds, was less than appealing to us.
  • There is one in every group.  You know the obnoxious, louder than everyone else, smart- you know what- that thinks they are the funniest in the group, well we had one of those in our group.  You are with a group of strangers and you spend 2 - 2 1/2 hours with them.  I knew in the first 5 minutes that this guy was going to be THAT guy.  He was 110%.  His kids were out of control and he laughed.  There wasn't much this guy could do that didn't annoy us, for TWO FREAKING HOURS.
  • It was too long, in my opinion.  Little kids started to lose interest.
Now, had we started our trip with this tour, and it hadn't been over 90 degrees, and our tolerance for annoying people had been higher, perhaps I'd feel differently.  As it was, I think this tour is just not for our family.  BUT if you have young kids and you go during cooler weather and you are looking for something different and fun to do during your Disney vacation, by all mean, give this scavenger hunt a try.  If you have a different experience, please come back and tell us about it.
